Keep your wardrobe and accessories happy

Apart from manners, even a good wardrobe maketh a man. Here are some simple and straightforward hacks you can follow to maintain a closet that even you will be proud of.

Clothing
Organize your closet by category and hang your clothes using appropriate hangers. Create room by donating or recycling old clothes. Brushing (with a hard bristle duster) your coats, jackets and pants often, reduces the number of trips to the laundromat and also increases the life span of fabrics.

Bags
Keep your bags in mint condition by storing them in their garment bags filled with newspaper stuffing and moisture-proof activated carbon deodoriser. If its leather, maintain the finish with the right moisturising cream. Airing them every few months also ensures there is no damage from fungal growth.

Shoes
Wipe down or brush your shoes after every use. Leather shoes especially have to be rested for 24 hours before being worn again. When in storage, keep them separate and wrapped in muslin or in a box. If they tend to collapse, then invest in shoe trees to keep them in shape. Shoes not in use usually tend to get mouldy, so ensure you wear that favourite pair once in a while.

Watches
Watches are the best investment a man can make as it is a legacy he can leave for his sons or daughters. Maintain your precious time pieces in separate sections on their own pillows to maintain shape. Wipe them down after each wear and keep them away from perfume, metallic objects and other liquids.

Shades and other accessories
Organise your sun glasses in a glass topped organiser. Invest in a good lens cleaning solution and microfibre wipe to keep those shades looking spanking new. Other accessories like tie pins, cuff links and ties can be organised in a drawer with separators.
