THE HISTORY

Prestige The Man Store traces its beginnings to 50 years ago when Prestige House For Men began tailoring and retailing men’s clothing and fabric on Commercial Street, Bangalore’s garment retailing hub.

Prestige House For Men is the provenance of the Prestige Group, the leading Indian property management corporate.

Prestige Fashions is the umbrella organization under which all retail activity is directed by Noaman Razack whose father Razack Sattar founded the original establishment. Razack Sattar was a true innovator, a farsighted man who knew the power of the personal touch, long before it became the mantra of the latter-day, jargon-spouting marketing guru.

During the 60’s and the 70’s, his sons Irfan and Rezwan initially worked with Mr Sattar as the business grew rapidly, apace with Bangalore. It soon became a city family tradition, as one generation followed the next, to make the pilgrimage to Prestige for clothes to dress up rites of passage such as weddings, job interviews, going abroad to study or work, as well as for those for more everyday use.

The store’s bespoke tailoring is a part of Bangalore history: a facility that dates back to Prestige’s beginnings and is today more popular than ever with old Bangaloreans as well NRI’s and tourists for whom leaving town without a Prestige shopping bag or two in hand is unthinkable.

THE GROWTH CURVE
In the 70's Noaman himself came to Prestige prompted by the desire to work with his father and learn all about this fascinating and dynamic business that was about to take off. Retailing was in his blood and being a people's person made him the logical choice to provide retail with a direction and a personality. As for Prestige itself, Noaman's plan was to make it grow, keeping step with the sweeping changes in style, lifestyle and dressing he instinctively knew were coming.

A strategic step was becoming a Raymond's franchisee in 1982, one that extended the Prestige range both in ready-to-wear as well as with fabrics for bespoke tailoring.
Prestige, under his guidance, cemented its reputation as the scenario evolved through the 80's into the 90's. It has grown and adapted while always focusing on the essentials: while ready-to-wear became more relevant, for the Prestige customer bespoke tailoring continues to be a prime means of individual expression.

As Noaman says, “Today, more than ever, good dressing, custom-made clothing, the perfect accessory, all say that you, the wearer, care deeply about the things that matter and that you make the time and effort to seek them out.”

FIRM FORWARD
The Prestige objective, it's always been clear, was not just to be the best at each point in time, but to always reach beyond. Hence, what was next? More space? Certainly. Refining the customer focus even more? Without a doubt. Retail and everyone in it was changing. How would Prestige continue to stay ahead of the curve?

In a rapidly morphing context, the customer needed to be wooed not just with the new, but also with the assurance of continuity. Shopping at Prestige has always been about no pressures - to hurry, to choose, or to spend; it's about the unstressed pleasure of fine shopping, good value, appropriate merchandising, free from the herd mentality. The time had come to move to the next level. In more senses than one.

THE MAN STORE
And so, now, Prestige The Man Store is open: 20,000 square feet spread over four floors.
It's perhaps the first time that a shop of this size and complexity has been set aside for the all-important, but sometimes neglected, area of men's clothing. The Man Store is the outcome of a heritage, and a wealth of experience and knowhow.
